the Last Nuclear Bomb Memorial
Nuclear warfare will be a real threat to humanity for as long as we stay civilized. For my generation, people 40 years and younger, this might sound like a surreal thought. Do nuclear weapons not belong to the past? We have not experienced the fear that rose with the cold war, on our own skin, and therefore may not be able to understand the threat. In our research for this project, the severity of the topic came clear. Nuclear weapons contain almost unnatural power and individuals that possess it as well. As long as we have the technology to make nuclear weapons and we will, each generation has to remind the next of this threat. When we think about real threats to humanity, e.g., global warming, pandemics, asteroids, the prospect of a nuclear violation only rises as it withdraws from public awareness.
