Jarðbundið
earthbound
Tourists are a diverse group of people with various expectations that call for a varied service. The service buildings and planning of the area connect a variety of natural places that already have a strong natural appeal. The buildings are made to lie effortlessly in the terrain, so as not to be in contention with their surroundings. The buildings are drawn back and made to be movable in time and space. So they confront the uncertainty and speed that define the current change to the natural environment in Jökulsárlón. Implied, but significant openings from within, and tactility in the choice of material emphasize the return to the ground a weary traveler seeks as a repose from the stress-inducing everyday.
